News Update April 2019

ABO Wind are delighted to have secured planning permission on behalf of ERG for an increase in tip height of the previously consented Evishagaran Wind Farm to a maximum height of 140m. All turbines remain in the same positions as previously consented.

The proposed tip height increase will facilitate the installation of turbines which are more productive in terms of capacity, reflecting the changes and improvements in turbine technology that have occurred over the last number of years.

News Update July 2017

ABO Wind are pleased to announce that the project has been sold to ERG S.p.A.  ERG is one of the leading energy groups in Italy, listed on the Milan Stock Exchange and active in the production and marketing of electricity from three main sources: wind, hydro and natural gas.

ABO will continue to work with ERG to deliver the project on the ground.  It is expected that the project will be operational by Q4 2020.

News Update April 2016

Planning permission was granted by the Planning Appeals Commission on 4th April 2016. We are currently in discussion with NIE/SONI on where the site will connect to the grid and what the timeline for connection will be.

The Evishagaran site is located in the townlands of Evishagran and Cruckanim 5.5km east of the town of Dungiven in County L’Derry. Access would be from the Gelvin Road via a private road known locally as the American Road. The scheme would have an installed capacity of 35MW, comprising 14 turbines, each with a maximum blade tip height of 125m and a hub height of 80m.

The planning application with accompanying environmental statement (ES) was submitted in May 2013 after a period of pre-application discussions with DoE Planning, Northern Ireland Environment Agency and other stakeholders. As a result of the pre-application consultation process the positioning and layout of the scheme evolved to reflect many of the comments received from consultee’s.

The planning application, environmental information and related documents and correspondence are available to view on the planning service public access portal. Hard copies of the planning application and ES can be viewed at Dungiven public library.

At a proposed 35MW Evishagaran Wind Farm could generate 140m kWh of electricity per year. This is enough clean green energy to supply 21,000 homes and to reduce CO2 emissions by 63,000 tonnes.

This project supports National and EU objectives for promoting renewable energy development and achieving the Northern Ireland target of 40% of electricity supply to be generated from renewable sources by 2020.

ABO Energy follows a policy of providing direct local community benefit in recognition of local communities hosting onshore wind energy projects.
